What Do You Want?
When was the last time you thought about what you want? When was the last time you sat down and said, “If anything were possible, this is what I’d want to be doing…”
MS is a riddle. A question without an answer followed by another and yet another, a funhouse wickedly beckoning you to come inside and get lost in its maze. As symptoms mysteriously appear and disappear during the course of hours, or days, or weeks, it’s nearly irresistible to become obsessed with what’s happening in your body, what feels bad or wrong, how sick you are at any given moment. Many do get lost inside the maze. Are you?
When you ask yourself what you want, and you answer that question – genuinely, thoroughly answer it – true North will make itself known. The walls of the labyrinth will fade and give way to an open field, ripe with the seeds of your desires.
Exploring what you want – referencing and updating it often – is one of the most effective ways to begin to create an amazing and deeply satisfying life. It’s one of the most effective ways to move your attention away from how sick you are and instead onto what moves you, what gets you excited, what makes you passionate. And doing that, well, that’s where true healing begins.
So what makes you passionate?
Challenge:
I invite you to spend a few minutes today creating a list of what you want. If anything were possible. If the world were your canvas. What would you be doing? From the minute details and banal activities in your life to the grandest of dreams, write it all down. Don’t judge yourself as you do it, just write down whatever comes to mind. And notice the way you feel as you get into it. Notice how it changes your perspective, how your body might feel different, how your energy shifts.
Once you start, it’s hard to stop. So keep that list around and add to it as new wants come up. Doing this will begin to wake areas in your life that have been stagnant for a very long time. That’s good. Go with it, and keep updating and adding to your list.
Having MS does not mean you cannot want, and it doesn’t mean you cannot have a magnificent, purposeful, exquisite life. So explore what you want, because doing so will aim you in that direction. It will remind you, in every cell of your body, that you are alive, and passionate, and you have the power to create the life you’ve always wanted.
So, what do you want?

Karen – I love this post. And I agree, there’s nothing more central to the journey of healing and health than living inside of your fascination. Synchronously, I just posted something very similar for entrepreneurs. It’s here if you’re interested: http://spiralentrepreneurs.com/rescuing-your-fascination/
