Announcing Autoimmune Warrior Bootcamp with Ann Boroch
The Facebook status message you see above is a real message taken from my newsfeed two days ago. It was posted by someone in the MS community regarding an upcoming MS walk.
Please take a moment to read it now and call out (if you’re at work do it in your head so your co-workers don’t think you’re hungry) what is wrong with this picture.
Yes, you’re correct. Pancakes. And also hot dogs.
This is such a perfect example of the sad state of our MS culture and the culture of autoimmune illness in general. We are walking to cure MS, but we’re eating pancakes and hot dogs before and after. And we are tragically ignorant about the fact that these foods we are putting into our bodies are what’s helping to keep us sick.
The irony of any sort of MS event serving pancakes and hot dogs is deeply disturbing. As is the thought of people with MS who are suffering and who genuinely and intensely want to find a cure, but don’t realize that they are probably making their symptoms worse every time they eat a meal.
This is not the fault of the person who wrote this status update. This update is just a glaring symptom of a broken system called conventional medicine. Doctors are not taught about nutrition in med school. Many if not most doctors actually do not believe that the food we eat has anything to do with our diseases. I have heard that this is beginning to change – that medical schools are now teaching classes on nutrition.
However, even doctors who do believe there is some correlation are severely underestimating the depth and breadth of that connection. Most doctors just don’t get it. And therefore most patients just don’t get it.
Announcing the first Autoimmune Warrior Bootcamp: 7 Weeks to a Diet, Detox, & Nutritional Makeover for Total Recovery
Since releasing my e-book last month I have received many, many inquiries about the details of naturopath Ann Boroch’s recovery plan, which I discuss in the book. It’s obvious that those who believe they can heal their autoimmune illness at its root cause by addressing diet, supplements, detox, and beliefs are hungry for the information and guidance on how to make these major changes successfully. Because our doctors don’t know.
I have personally seen incredible results since working with Ann in 2007 when I was diagnosed. Because of my work with Ann, I have confidently moved forward without ever going on any of the MS medications. And I have been healthy and relapse-free for nearly 4 years, until my recent relapse in December. You’re probably saying to yourself right now, well, if you had a relapse on her recovery plan, then it obviously doesn’t work.
But the cool thing is that my recent relapse was actually further evidence and proof of how well her plan does work, because for several months prior to my relapse, I had essentially abandoned it. I started to allow many foods into my diet that were not supposed to be there. I had stopped taking my supplements for financial reasons. I stopped exercising. And I was under enormous emotional stress when I left my family and friends and a long relationship and moved across the country to a place where I had no support system.
So as much as it just plain sucked to experience a major flare-up, I was secretly quite satisfied by the evidence of the logic of my body, and that I had once again proven that I had chosen the correct course in 2007 to treat my illness. Because as soon as I strayed from that course, MS came and bit me in the ass. So to speak. And as soon as I got back on the diet and supplements, my flare-up subsided and I began to recover.
Which is to say that I am even more confident and even more resolved that Ann’s recovery program is a safe, effective, and fabulous way to treat your MS, or whatever autoimmune illness you have.
So when I started getting all these inquiries about her program, I approached Ann about working together to offer a live, weekly online training program. And she thought it was a great idea.
So we’re going for it!
And I’ve been hard at work over here making this happen so we can launch the program as soon as possible, which is why I haven’t posted much this past week. But the good news is that in gearing up for the course, Ann and I will be discussing via Skype some of the major issues that I know you are all dealing with, and we’ll be recording those conversations and making them available to you as online videos as early as the end of this week. So keep an eye out for the first of those.
And if you think you might be interested in the course, please comment here and tell us what you most want and need right now on your own path to recovery.

How fascinating that you opened with the unhealthiness of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday! Keep it coming!
I love this idea Autoimmune bootcamp. I just need the encouragement to keep on the path, sometimes it is so hard not to stray, especially when feeling good. There are some things in my diet I need to eliminate and havent been able to like Coffee! Pancakes and Hotdogs GROSS!!!
hi jane. thanks for your comment. i know what you mean – straying from the diet when i feel good has been one of the biggest challenges i’ve had. ann and i will be releasing some videos in the next few days of conversations we’ve had on skype about some of the biggest issues people have when faced with autoimmune illness. and in one of those videos we talk about the five biggest challenges of implementing the diet. so keep an eye out for that. and i definitely recommend nixing the coffee! i was never a big coffee drinker but i have grown to really love and adore my tea!
sarah – i must confess my ignorance – i hadn’t even heard of shrove tuesday but just looked it up on wikipedia and i see that eating pancakes is indeed a tradition on shrove tuesday. how funny. but the timing was definitely not intentional!
I have to say i was so confused when I saw the ms walk post….couldn’t believe it was coming from you! Thankfully my concern was relieved when I read further. I am definitely interested in an autoimmune bootcamp. I was doing great until a few months ago when I let some bad foods back into my diet and started relaxing with a glass of wine almost every might. It took awhile, but like you, my body sent me a screaming message. I am back on track now, butt a boot camp would just be such good support. I would especially like to get info on reducing the inflammation and stiffness in my muscles. Thanks Karen for all you do!
hi deb! thanks for taking the time to let us know what you think would be useful. your feedback is really valuable.
Hello Karen,
I’m interested in the autoimmune boot camp as well. I’ve been following the Wahls program, but I would like more information and support. I suspect they might fit well together. But you think?
hi aliyah. i think this bootcamp will be absolutely packed with information and support and i think if you are interested in healing the root cause of your illness with diet and lifestyle changes, this will be an excellent fit for you. i’ll be sending out more info about it shortly so you’ll have more details.

Hi Karen, I like you often comment about supposed health organizations and their “walk” funraisers serving unhealthy foods. What are they thinking? That should be the first place (or second next to schools) where healthy foods are served. I am glad that you commented about your recent relapse. I was wondering how that fit into your assessment of the food plan. What a great explanation. Also, I think the bootcamp is a great idea. Keep up the good work Karen. Thanks! Pam
thank you pam!
Love the idea of autoimmune bootcamp! Would really be curious to hear Ann’s thoughts on Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) and her recs’as to how we can address that thru her plan vs. the angioplasty procedures. Relapses…have her detail a step by step plan on handling relapses, to help us keep calm, limit the damage & get our body back on track as quickly as possible. Her new print of her book has eliminated gluten, would love to hear more of her thoughts on that. What are her top 10? things she would recommend (nutritionally, supplements, etc) to anyone diagnosed with MS, the absolutely critical pieces to her health plan to fight MS-the if you don’t do anything else, do these list. Fine tuning, fine tuning, how to really fine tune her plan…common areas people trip on. What if a person is diligent with the plan and still not having success? Any new, recent testamonials…or updates on long term clients following the MS plan? Would love to hear more of her thoughts on fermented foods (ex: the Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates).
thanks so much lisa for your thorough requests. they are all very good points and we will make sure to take them into account. i really appreciate you taking the time to let us know what you want!
Hi Karen, would love to also hear Ann’s thoughts on other alternative therapies for MS…ex: LDN, etc. Definately a step by step plan on what to do during a relapse. Thoughts on raw food diets,Gerson therapy, food allergies & testing of them & the final say on fermented foods while on her program. Other populars: ex-wheatgrass, royal jelly, etc.-opinions?
Advice on how to handle traditional drs who poo-poo nutritional approaches/alternative approaches to treatment of MS & do not support your non-use of traditional MS meds.
Some recs & suggestions for possible nerve regeneration…what are the newest & latest thoughts?
Also, besides adding the no gluten component, have there been other major changes in her book & plan w/the most recent printing? if people should be upgrading to the new book if they have the older print?
Any changes to her supplement suggestions…brands, sources?
Stress relief, curious beyond yoga, meditation, other ideas? EFT?
Karen, if I think of more…I’ll type them in!
Lisa~ (again!
More recipes, eating suggestions and resources that are compatible & supportive of Ann’s healing plan: anti-candida, yeast free, dairy free, sugar free & now gluten free! makes it tricky, especially when you are attempting to be diligent.
Hi Karen,
I am excited for your series. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and have since have been following the Diet. I have also been relapse free for this entire time, even though I had relapses every year for 3 years prior to my diagnosis. I have two questions that I hope you can address with your series:
1) My hubby and I are trying to start a family. I am hungry for any and all information about post natal MS complications, how to avoid them, etc. I have met several others who have had relapses after giving birth and I want to be as informed as possible about my options before some doctor starts telling me what I “need.” Well, come to think about it, any info at all regarding pre and post natal care would be welcome!
2) If you do relapse, what is the best course of treatment? My neuro promotes prednisone, but I am very ANTI-pred. What other ways can I address relpase if it happens?
Thanks so much. Your blog really inspires me and gives voice to many of my beliefs and feelings. It is great to be validated when reading your posts! Thank you!!!!!
Andrea
Karen,
Do you have details yet on this program? I love Ann’s work! I love your work too and I think its a wonderful idea that you two are putting your brain’s together to help others. I am totally interested!
Karen,
I’m looking forward to the Autoimmune Bootcamp and I think, right now, I would just echo what Lisa was posting and add a subtle hint to talk about the expense of this program.
The cost of supplements and organic eating on a disability income gets difficult but unfortunately is a reality.
Hope things can work out for this program.
hi jim. i definitely understand the expense of this lifestyle, all too well! i think you’ll find that the price for this course is very reasonable considering the number of hours and quantity and quality of content. especially since this is the first time we’re running it, we’ll be offering it at a lower rate than we will in the future as we iron out the kinks and get feedback and testimonials. i’ll be sending out all the details on that stuff shortly.
Hi Karen, I thought of another topic to add in for Ann’s discussions during bootcamp: the role of low levels of Vit D in autoimmune. And would love to hear Ann’s own personal continued story…still free of relapses? MRI results? and besides her recovery program is she doing any other supplemental therapies, etc for herself personally to keep her MS in remission. Thanks Karen & Ann, this is exciting & I’m looking forward to the info she presents!
Hey Karen, I am 1,000,000% interested in the boot camp. I always knew that diet plays a huge role in the disease, and I fell off track big time for about 8 or 9 months because I felt fine and thought I was invincible. After having the worst flare up since being diagnosed in 2004, I spent the entire month of February in the hospital. There I received numerous medications, and countless physical therapy sessions, but I am still feeling like crap. Im not walking on my own and I feel trapped in my body. Please let me know how I can start this boot camp ASAP because I am at a brick wall and need to get back on my feet. What does this program involve?
hi frank. we will be launching the webinar series in a few weeks and it will probably be starting at the end of april. if you want to stay in the loop for program details, you can either check back on the site or download my ebook (the form on the top right of the site), which will put you on my list so you can get regular updates. if however you need immediate help, which it sounds like you do, my suggestion is to book a private session with ann – she can get you started right away on the changes that will put you on a path to health. her website is http://www.annboroch.com. tell her i sent you! i know you are struggling right now and i’ve been there, but remember that you CAN get well again and there is a lot of action you can take to address the root causes of your illness. ann is the best place to start. keep in touch and let me know how you are.
karen
Hi there, any updates on the bootcamp & when it will be available? Just making sure I haven’t missed notifications on it.
hi lisa. we’ve had some delays as a result of some life curveballs but should be launching within the month. i’ll definitely keep everyone posted when we do!
Will I need Skype or something comparable for video teleconferencing for the upcoming Oct 2nd Bootcamp?
hi vivian. no you will not need skype – all you need is a high-speed internet connection!
