You Are Okay, Right Now

This blog is about healing. The coaching work I do with people is about healing. I call myself “The Self-Healing Coach”. And yet, I have never addressed the frequent and fundamental confusion regarding the word “heal.” “Healing” often gets confused for “curing.” But these are not the same thing. While they are used interchangeably quite often, they are, in fact, galaxies apart. A person can be “cured” of their illness and still need healing. And a person can be “healed” but still be symptomatic and “sick” by medical standards. I know that everyone wants...

Transcending Survival Mode

My daughter has been on winter break and home from school for the last two weeks. As a single mom with no family around, these sorts of child-rearing marathons can be very taxing. It’s like, I love you and all, honey, but pleeeeasssse stop talking. Also, I wasn’t feeling well for most of the last week. Maybe it was the mild stomach virus I had, maybe it was a detox from how clean I’ve been eating, I don’t know. But what I do know is that I’ve felt this week like life was more...

What’s Your New Year’s Resolution? Let’s Resolve to Get Healthy!

There is a water bug living in my bathroom. It is larger and more grotesque than any bug should have any right to be. For a few days, I refused to go in there. Instead, I chose to walk to the bathroom on the other side of the apartment, where I keep the litter box, to enjoy the scent of fresh cat poop while I relieve myself. After a few days of this, I realized that I could open my bathroom door, turn the light on, and wait a moment for Mr. Bug to...

A Fungus Among Us: The Real Cause of MS?

A Fungus Among Us: The Real Cause of MS?

There’s a fungus among us. In fact, there are many. And where there are fungi, there are fungal toxins, known as mycotoxins. These, my friends, are – according to David Holland, MD – public enemy #1 in the battle against multiple sclerosis. The prime suspect. The one to blame for this MesS. Dr. Holland’s theory makes more sense to me and fits with the evidence I’ve gathered from my own personal experience more than anything else I’ve heard. Dr. Holland, with co-author Doug Kaufmann, have written two books: The Fungus Link and The Fungus...

Your Stories Are Your Path To Healing

It is the stories we carry that tell us who we are. It is our stories that tell us how to see the world. When we step onto the path of healing (whether it be with the goal of healing an illness or just trying to be a happier person), our stories are our greatest clues. The stories that live in our psyches, that come forth, asking to be acknowledged, are where our work begins. It’s important to ask ourselves why, of all the millions of events and memories we have experienced, are these...

Dating Superman

Dating Superman

So I’ve started dating this guy, and I think he might be Superman. He doesn’t sleep. He regularly stays up for three days at a time, welding and sawing in his shop, building these amazing custom tables and benches and funky metal wind chimes and wrought-iron bed frames, without so much as a cat nap and without the assistance of any drugs, energy drinks, coffee, or even a cup of green tea. I checked his kitchen for signs of artificial assistance. Nothing but fruit punch. I keep saying, “But you have to sleep,” and...

Wanna Feel Well? Eat the Sun.

“I’ve never drawn in my life,” said my friend Shay. “I don’t know where this is coming from but it feels amazing.” Shay was telling me about her recent transition to a raw food diet and how she suddenly started creating dozens of drawings/watercolor every day. “And, all my health issues are clearing up too. I’ve never felt so good.” “That’s what happens when you eat the sun,” I said. “You’re increasing the light energy in your body. Biophotons, baby, it’s all about the biophotons.” Biophotons are the smallest physical units of light. Our...

Be Patient. Have Faith. You’ll Get There.

This morning I was at the post office. My car was parked a few rows away from the entrance, in a farther lot separated by an island of grass with some landscaping. A little walkway had been paved across the island to allow people to access the lot without ruining the grass or walking all the way around the island. As I walked out of the post office and toward my car, I noticed that in order to access this paved path, I’d have to walk a few steps to my left and out...

Just Because You Can Run Someone Over, Doesn’t Mean You Should

“You know I’ll never run you over, even though you know I can.” That’s a line from a song written and performed by my friend Kai. I’ve listened to this song a thousand times. It’s beautiful and brilliant. But when I heard that line this morning, I thought of my ex-boyfriend, who I wrote about in my post Sex, Lies, and Healing Multiple Sclerosis, and I felt awful. Just because you can run someone over, doesn’t mean you should. This blog is how I document my life and how I share it with you,...

How Committed Are You To Getting Healthy?

“The heart of misguided people is ‘almost.’” – King Solomon  ”The secret of completion is to eradicate almost. To get rid of good enough and close enough.” – Michael Berg Sometimes I’m really impressed with my will. After all, most people gasp when I tell them how many major staples of the American Diet I don’t eat. I’m especially impressed with myself when I go out on dates – guys always seem to be amazed by my ability to not order an alcoholic beverage or dessert with dinner. But other times, I stare at...
